Moving to Spain – a privilege

The dream of living and living in Spain is more popular than ever and has been realized by thousands of people over the years.

My dream also came true in the end and in 1985 I decided to leave Sweden and move to Spain. It was meant as a trial year but it was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my entire life. Moving to Spain was an exciting adventure that I wish to share with others.

Buying an apartment in Spain is the most common thing for Northern Europeans who want to acquire a holiday home in Spain. Buying a house in Spain is more common for families who plan to spend longer periods of time or settle permanently in the country.

Good climate for both body and wallet

Moving to Spain as a retiree has become more and more common. The warmer climate is of course a big reason, but there is also an economic reason. For example, a Swedish pensioner who moves to Spain gets more in his wallet every month. If you also add lower living expenses, the equation can become really pleasant.

For older people with worn-out bodies, it is a great relief not to have such large fluctuations in temperature. It is not good for an old body to go from a centrally heated apartment with 22 degrees heat, to 10-15 degrees cold.

The dietary habits are another reason why many choose to live in Spain. The so-called Mediterranean diet, which consists of vegetables, fish, bread, olive oil and red wine, is now quite widely accepted as one of the healthiest in the world. For people suffering from asthma or rheumatism, moving to Spain is pure heaven. As well as for anyone who often gets colds, pneumonia or suffers from bronchitis.

Spain is such a diverse country that it feels like several countries in one and it’s hard to know where to start. Whether you want to enjoy beaches, mountains, arid plains, tropical climate, skiing, hiking, or long, warm evenings, Spain has what you’re looking for. The Spanish people are outgoing, they know how to enjoy life and love to eat and party. Spaniards are loyal friends and have strong ties to their family. They are proud of their country and often show how much they appreciate us foreign citizens who have chosen to live here.
