A NIE number is a form of identification number or tax number needed in Spain if you are not a Spanish citizen. NIE number stands for “Número de Identificación de Extranjero”.
Having a NIE number is a requirement to be able to open a bank account, buy a property, sign various agreements for example for electricity and water, buy a car, etc. Once you have received a NIE number it is valid for the rest of your life, previously it was valid for 3 months, but that is no longer the case.
You can apply for a NIE number at the police in Spain, or at a Spanish embassy or consulate outside Spain. The easiest thing is to apply for a NIE number on site in Spain. Contact us and we will help you further to apply for your NIE number.
